Property agent career: We find out how much you need to invest to start earning

People may consider becoming real estate agents because of the benefits they provide. The opportunity to choose one’s own schedule, be their own boss, and earn a healthy commission on each sale is appealing to some people.

However, you should be aware that it takes not just persistence but also an initial financial commitment to receive your license, get your first customer, and start seeing money pour in.

In this post, we compile data from several sources to provide a comprehensive cost breakdown for your career shift.

You should evaluate your educational background before starting out on a career as a real estate agent.

The Real Estate Salesperson (RES) course and test are now restricted to those with at least a Level 5 or higher Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) assessment score, or a minimum of 4 GCE “O” Level passes, as mandated by the Council for Estate Agencies (CEA).

Alternatively, you may apply to the CEA for a fee and have them evaluate your foreign or private school credentials to see whether they match the education requirement.

The RES course is mandatory for all new applicants as preparation for the test.

The goal of the course is to ensure that all newcomers to the field have a solid grounding in real estate practice ideas and the relevant legal requirements.

The cost and duration of these courses may vary from $700 to $900 and last anywhere from two weeks to two months.

You may utilize your SkillsFuture credit or, if you’re a member of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), the Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP) subsidy of up to $250 to cover the cost of your training.

A course certificate valid for 2 years for res exam questions & eligibility will be awarded to candidates who have attended at least 75% of the course.

After 2 years from the date of certification, if you have not passed the res exam 2023, you must retake the course.

From $700.00 to $900.00 USD for each course, depending on the institution offering it
